I was a first-generation college student from a low-income family, and like so many students who come from similar backgrounds, the path to higher education wasn’t always clear. But thanks to TRIO programs, that path not only became possible—it became my reality.

Upward Bound was more than just an afterschool program to me. It was a community, a support system, and an opportunity to dream bigger. I have fond memories of Saturday Academies, Summer Residential Programs, hanging out with friends in the dorms, and the dedicated TRIO staff who always believed in me—even when I doubted myself. These experiences weren’t just about academics; they were about belonging, growth, finding my voice and realizing my potential. With TRIO’s support, I earned both my undergraduate and graduate degrees, accomplishments that once felt out of reach.

TRIO programs play a critical role in opening the doors to college for so many students. They must be protected, strengthened, and given the resources they need to continue changing lives. trio.tools was created to support this mission.
